What is EDIAA?

EDIAA stands for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Anti-Racism. Raise the Bar is committed to promoting awareness and equal representation across all of our initiatives, including our research, club events and marketing posts.

Equity – removing barriers so everyone has equal opportunities

Diversity – identifying and valuing the differences that exist between individuals in our community

Inclusion – addressing inequities in power and privilege to build a welcoming, encouraging community

Accessibility – designing initiatives to be usable by all people (including persons with disabilities) so everyone can fully participate

Anti-Racism – an ongoing process of identifying and working to eliminate aspects of racism, such as systemic issues, policies and racist practices

Why is EDIAA Important?

At Queen’s, we have students from many different backgrounds, identities and experiences. At Raise the Bar, we want all everyone in the Queen’s community to feel supported and welcome. We strive to foster an inclusive environment where all students feel safe participating in our initiatives and empowered to make healthy choices, no matter who they are or where they come from.

Role of the EDIAA Director

The Raise the Bar EDIAA director oversees all club research initiatives and marketing posts to ensure they are consistent with the club’s EDIAA values. They also work with the Events team, making sure all club-organized events are accessible and inclusive to all.

How you can promote EDIAA:

  • continuous education on systemic and structural barriers, accessibility issues and cultural issues (attending workshops and seminars, reading articles)
  • offering flexibility when planning events to ensure accessibility for everyone
  • recognizing diverse sources when conducting research
  • using inclusive language and eliminating use of offensive slurs
  • highlighting and sharing the work of diverse individuals
